BROTHERLY LOVE

Love one another with brotherly affection. OUTDO ONE ANOTHER in showing HONOR!

Romans 12:10

Every believer shows love out of the love the have received. Because of the love that our father has shown us, we too can love; 1 John 4:19. This Phileo love is spoken about in 1 John 3:16. We learn the kind of love that Jesus taught us in the way he treated his disciples and how he spoke and interacted with the church. Jesus Christ laid down his life for us so we too ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and our sisters. He didn’t just do this at the cross but every day he sacrificed his life for the church. My friends, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and truth 1 John 3:17.

Jesus was our example of brotherly love. Jesus summed up the commandments with love. The greatest of all the commandments is to love but the second is equally as great, to love your neighbor as yourself. Well, who is our neighbor, our brother; is it not those who do the will of the father in heaven? In Matthew we see that wonderful sacrificial love towards those that Jesus loved. Before Jesus’ moment of ultimate love on the cross for the church, he speaks,

“this is my commandment that you love one another, just as I have loved you.”

Jesus was the ultimate example of how to love. Heaven itself, is filled with the love of God, from all those who have died and gone on ahead of us. They too had to learn to love because the essence of heaven is love ❤️! True brotherly love cannot be found in our happiest moments only, true love is at all times. Proverbs 17:17 says that a friend loves at ALL TIMES! Love is beyond judgement. We should always try to build each other up by encouraging and standing with our brothers and sisters in Christ; is this not true love? 1 John 3:17; if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need yet CLOSES HIS Heart against him, how does God’s love abide in Him? I heard it said once that charity is the heartbeat of compassion!

It is in the book of Revelation chapter 3:7-13, we see one of the seven churches that Jesus spoke to John about. Jesus is correcting the behaviors of all the churches and rebuking their sin. Only one church was not rebuked but was only commended for their constant act of love towards one another. This was the church of Philadelphia; the very church that gave us Phileo love (brotherly love).

Think on these things
