We often times read this scripture from Romans 12:21 and don’t really understand what it is talking about.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
This passage is talking about love 💕!!
Living here in Africa we all know the desperate struggle that most face every day of getting food, school fees, and water. These three provide us all with very difficult financial burdens but giving to one another should never be forced or the blessings of God will not follow your kind act. To love someone must come from the heart ❤️! To FULLY love someone requires us to not love another. If our hearts 💕 are divided with our passions towards another then the first love will be forgotten and you will not be able to devote your attention to them. That is why the Bible tells us that we cannot love the world and love God at the same time. You will love the one and hate the other. Now if you apply this principle to helping others in love, they to help someone MUST COME from a compassionate heart. A compassionate heart can ONLY BE PRESENT in the one who is in love 💕 with only God because otherwise the heart will be divided and that person won’t give from the heart of caring. They will give because they feel forced or compelled by circumstances. To LOVE 💕 only one, we must HATE the other!! This is why it says in Romans 12:9, that LOVE 💕 MUST be sincere. HATE WHAT IS EVIL, cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in LOVE 💕. Honor one another above yourselves. You see people of God, to TRULY LOVE ❣️, WE MUST BE IN LOVE ONLY WITH JESUS! If we are in love with the world, the sincerity that the apostle Paul calls for here will NEVER be present and we will fight and quarrel about doing what is right!! Not all people that come to us are going to be our sweet neighbors who would never harm us, sometimes our enemies will come and they will beg from us some food. V20) “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” The Bible tells us that if your neighbor asks you for your cloak, give it to them. Now here we have an enemy who is begging for food and drink and the word of the Lord in such matters is to give. It doesn’t ask us if we feel happy but God still wants us to get past our hurts and give with sincere love. In doing this act of kindness, the evil that came on you from your enemy will be turned into good and that is what that verse is telling us… “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” This requires us to keep our flesh under and live from the spirit. It requires following God’s principles whether we understand them or not and bringing our flesh into submission with the father and obedience to the spirit of God! Let us learn to identify with the needs of our neighbors and help to bare one anothers burdens.
